A strong injury leaves Southampton's top scorer for 6 weeks

Southampton scorer Danny Ings will be out of action for a maximum of six weeks after a severe knee injury, his Austrian coach Ralph Hasenhotel revealed Wednesday.

Ings was injured during his team’s dramatic victory over Aston Villa in the back of the last house 4-3 with a joint ball with Al-Masry Trezig five minutes before the end.

The Southampton coach said, "At the moment it looks like he will be out for 4 to 6 weeks. He will undergo minor surgery on Thursday morning. Things could have been worse, but in the end he will be absent from the squad and that is not a good thing for us."

"It is a big loss for the team, but we do not rely on one player only," he added.

The coastal south team is currently fifth and will meet Newcastle, Wolverhampton, Manchester United, Brighton, Sheffield United and Arsenal in the next six weeks.

Previously, Liverpool and Burnley striker Ings suffered two serious knee injuries during his career.
