60 yellow and 12 red cards in one round of the Chinese League

The stadiums of the Chinese Super League have turned into a battlefield under the exceptional system imposed by the outbreak of the new Corona virus, and the referees found themselves forced to distribute 60 yellow cards and 12 red cards at least in eight matches held so far in the second stage.

The new season was scheduled to start last February, but the outbreak of "Covid-19", which appeared in Wuhan for the first time last December, prompted the date to be postponed until July 25.

In light of the delay imposed by "Covid-19", the Super League was forced to amend its system and to distribute the 16 clubs into two groups whose matches were distributed in the cities of Suzhou, near Shanghai and Dalian, in the northeast.

The first stage ended in late September, with Gwangju Evergrande, led by Italian coach Fabio Cannavaro, leading the Dalian group after 14 matches for each team within seven weeks, while Shanghai SEPG was the top in the Sogo group.

The league resumed its second phase on October 16, and as it approached the decisive stages that would determine the identity of the hero and the descending teams in the next ten days, tension increased among the players and technical staff alike.

In the crucial game of the struggle to avoid relegation, which Wuhan Zal lost against Qingdao Huanghai the day before yesterday on penalties, the referee was forced to raise the red card three times.

There were many similar events in the last round of matches, and included both players and technical crews, which led to a variation in the statistics of the Chinese media for the number of cards distributed, but everyone agreed that their number was an unwanted record.

The government newspaper "Beijing News" said that 60 yellow and 13 red cards were distributed, which is "the largest number of red and yellow cards in one stage in the history of the Super League."
