National coach Gerben de Knegt selected 26 riders on Friday for the European Cyclocross Championships in Rosmalen at the beginning of November.

Defending champion Mathieu van der Poel is missing from the Dutch selection, as expected.

The 25-year-old Van der Poel is recovering from his road season and will only ride his first cyclocross in December, so it was more or less clear that he would skip the European Championship.

The brand new winner of the Tour of Flanders was crowned European cyclocross champion for the third year in a row in Silvelle, Italy.

For the first time in years, the selection for the men is not led by Van der Poel and consists of Lars van der Haar, Corné van Kessel, David van der Poel, Maik van der Heijden and Stan Godrie.

All the toppers are in the selection for women.

The Dutch trumps are Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado, who won the first two cyclocross races in the Superprestige, Lucinda Brand, Annemarie Worst, Denise Betsema, Yara Kastelijn and Sophie de Boer.

"I think we can compete for the title among the elite women, the U23 women and the U23 men", says national coach De Knegt.

"With the elite men I hope for a podium place. It is a winter with few competitions. That is why I also considered last winter's results in addition to this year's results."

The EC cyclo-cross will be held on 7 and 8 November at the Autotron Rosmalen site.

Last year, Kastelijn won the gold among women.
