Fernando Alonso

, who will return to Formula 1 next season with Renault (which will become Alpine) after two seasons of absence, will participate in a test session next Wednesday and Thursday in Bahrain, his team announced this Friday.

The 39-year-old Alonso will take the wheel of the RS18, the 2018 World Championship car, since the car from the current season cannot be used in private tests.

The Spaniard, who won his two Formula 1 titles with the French manufacturer in 2005 and 2006, was nevertheless able to drive the 2020 Renault up to 100 kilometers, the limit set by the regulations for a promotional event, in mid-October at the circuit of Barcelona.

The Asturian had not gotten into an F1 since April 2019, in tests with McLaren in Bahrain.

Last July Alonso made a commitment to Renault for an undisclosed time.

Next season the French cars will be called Alpine, the brand of sports cars from the French manufacturer.

The last appearance of the Spanish driver in the F1 World Cup, where he played 17 seasons and achieved 32 victories, was at the 2018 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, at the wheel of a McLaren.

Since his departure from F1, he has won two editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the title of world endurance champion (WEC) with Toyota.

Alonso also participated in the mythical Dakar Rally, where he finished 13th in 2020, and in the IndyCar Indianapolis 500 (abandoned in 2017, not classified in 2019, 21st in 2020).
