The Professional League announced, in a press release, yesterday, the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Israeli Football League, aiming to serve the popular game in both countries, and stressed that the memorandum comes within the framework of the Professional League’s keenness to strengthen its relations and bonds of friendship and cooperation with other football ties on The world level, to achieve more steps of progress, development and success.

This came at a signing ceremony held, the day before yesterday, with a video-calling system, attended by the President of the UAE Professional League, Abdullah Al-Junaibi, and the President of the Israeli Professional League, Erez Khilfon.

The announcement of this sporting move, which is the first of its kind at the level of the Middle East countries, comes within the framework of cooperation and increasing the chances of success and development of the game in the two countries. This historic agreement is a step towards laying the foundations for cooperation and securing a joint mechanism to achieve practical steps aimed at developing all affairs. The terms of the Memorandum of Understanding include the establishment of joint workshops in order to discuss ways to develop the marketing and promotional sides of the tournaments, in addition to keeping abreast of everything related to the technology of sports and football development, in addition to developing technical work in the football sector.

Al-Junaibi said: “The UAE has proven over the decades that it is the homeland of tolerance and the meeting place for the peoples of the world. This agreement will contribute to enhancing peace opportunities and confirming the bonds of cooperation and friendship for the interest of football in both countries.”

He added: “Football has always been the most important and fastest way to rapprochement between peoples, and these are the bonds of cooperation that we aim to through this agreement through which we hope to achieve many common gains, and we look forward to the agreement contributing to the establishment of bilateral workshops with the aim of exchanging experiences and research. And technology in football, in addition to developing the administrative and technical work. We also aim to organize joint activities between the two countries, and to confirm cooperation in a way that enhances the economic, commercial and sports side between the two sides.

For his part, Erez Khelfoun said: “Football is the most popular sport not only in the world, but also in Israel and the Emirates.
