His defeat at Roland Garros against Dominic Thiem made you want to see more of Hugo Gaston?
The French Tennis Federation will grant your wishes by inviting the young Frenchman, revelation of the last Roland-Garros, in the final draw of the Masters 1000 at Paris-Bercy, which begins Sunday, November 1.
On the other hand, no Gaël Monfils on the French side, the latter having decided to forfeit and put an end to his season.
"The confinement turned me off, it hurt me a lot, I came back without having a lot of confidence, I didn't manage to adapt well, to make the right choices for my return", explained the current 11th player in the world, describing himself in "a big negative spiral" and with "a lot, a lot of lack of confidence".
Not a game won
"I was obsessed with coming back, playing well, training well to play well, perform well, but I didn't manage to do it at all," he insisted.
Since his return to the ATP circuit in mid-September, after more than six months without competition due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Monfils has not won a single match in four tournaments (Rome, Hamburg and Roland-Garros on land beaten, Vienna indoors).
His solution?
“It's cut,” he replied.
I will cut tenistically.
I will always play sports as long as we can, do my little basketball, do my little paddle, hoping that there is not a second confinement, live my normal life, not necessarily worry about tennis.
And go back to training in mid-November, do my land preparation, and see if we go to Australia sooner or not (for a possible health fortnight), it will depend on the Australian authorities.
