Barcelona club president resigns

On Tuesday, Joseph Maria Bartomeu announced his resignation from the presidency of Barcelona, along with all members of the board of directors, after he was exposed to a campaign aimed at withdrawing confidence from him.

"I appear before you today in order to inform you of my resignation along with the rest of the board of directors. It is a deliberate and calm decision that won the approval of all shareholders," said Bartomeu at a press conference, according to Sky News.

And Bartomeu, who was targeted by a vote of no-confidence, denied Monday in a press conference that he was considering resigning from his post, explaining his decision that "it would be the worst time to leave Barcelona."

Bartomeu was elected president of the Catalan club in 2014, and the team won the Spanish League 4 times and the European Champions League once in 2015, noting that the club's presidential elections were scheduled for next March.
