Khabib Nurmagomedov has passed the weigh-in on Friday for his title fight with Justin Gaethje.

The UFC lightweight champion had to stand naked on the scales in order not to be overweight.

While two officials held a towel over his waist to block the view of his crotch from cameras and photographers, Nurmagomedov covered his face with relief when the scale indicated exactly 155 pounds (70.3 kilos).

The Russian MMA champion has not taken action for more than a year due to the corona crisis, which means that there is a lack of clarity about his physical condition in the run-up to the title fight.

Gaethje also weighed, albeit with his pants on, exactly the maximum weight of 155 pounds.

With Gaethje, the unbeaten UFC champion Nurmagomedov will face perhaps the most dangerous opponent of his career on Saturday.

The American clearly showed that he has set his sights on the championship belt of the Russian MMA fighter.

Gaethje appeared with the interim champion belt on his shoulder at a photo session on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.

He returned the belt to his guidance in front of the photographers, stared at Nurmagomedov's championship belt and said the words, "That's what I want."

'After the first round Gaethje is an average fighter'

Nurmagomedov has won all of his 28 MMA fights and has held the UFC's lightweight title since April 2018.

Due to the corona crisis, the Dagestan fighter had to cancel a title fight with Tony Ferguson in April this year.

Gaethje became Nurmagomedov's replacement and defeated Ferguson.

The 31-year-old fighter thus became interim champion and was promised a title fight with Nurmagomedov.

Gaethje has won 22 of his 24 fights, of which nineteen by knockout.

"He is very, very fast at the beginning of the fight," Nurmagomedov said at a press conference in Abu Dhabi.

"In the first round, Gaethje and Conor McGregor are the most dangerous fighter there is. But after that they are both of average level."

In October 2018, Nurmagomedov won in a high-profile fight against McGregor, which resulted in a massive brawl outside the ring.

Nurmagomedov against Gaethje is the main fight of UFC 254 and starts around 8 p.m. (Dutch time) on Saturday.
