Now that the fireworks in the Giro d'Italia for today are over, you naturally have plenty of time to follow the Vuelta.

We will keep you posted here.

Another 56 km -

We now also see Movistar at the head of the peloton.

Many teams seem to be planning something today.

Vuelta a España 15 minutes ago

59 km to go -

Because the pace in the peloton has suddenly increased, the escapees are already being taken back.

It is just over 50 km to the final climb to Laguna Negra.

Vuelta a España 19 minutes ago

Noh 62 km -

The escapees seem to be on a hopeless mission.

The lead of the group with Terpstra has now decreased to 0.50.

Vuelta a España 22 minutes ago

64 km to go -

Astana in particular is working hard at the front of the peloton.

The Kazakh team seems to want to put it aside.

The coming plain is ideal for fan formation.

Vuelta a España 23 minutes ago

Another 65 km -

The pace in the peloton goes up a bit due to the work of Jumbo-Visma, EF Pro Cycling and - now - Astana, reducing the lead of the refugees to 1.30.

The five escapees are at the top.

The peloton follows here in 2.40.

We keep paying attention, because in the coming plain there is a chance of fans.

Then it is another 80 km to the final climb.

Vuelta a España one hour ago

Another 88 km - We

also see a problem with a Sunweb jacket in the Vuelta.

Escape fighter Mark Donovan is cold and prepares for the descent, but does not get his coat on properly.

Vuelta a España one hour ago

Another 90 km -

In the meantime we see a whole train from EF Pro Cycling at the head of the peloton.

The pink team has two more serious candidates for the stage win with Daniel Martinez and Michael Woods.

Vuelta a España one hour ago

Another 95 km -

EF Pro Cycling puts a man at the head of the peloton.

Partly because of this, the lead of the refugees has dropped to 3.30.

Is this a stage for Hugh Carthy?

The 26-year-old Briton has made a good impression in recent days and is sixth in the general classification at 0.20 from red jersey carrier Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma).

Vuelta a España one hour ago

Another 97 km -

In the Giro d'Italia, things have now completely ignited.

In the Vuelta it is not really race yet.

Jumbo-Visma controls everything and the lead of the five front runners fluctuates around 4.00.

Vuelta a España one hour ago

99 km to go -

The peloton and the leading group maintain an equal rhythm on the Alto de Oncala.

We expect little real fireworks on this climb - with an average gradient of 2.7%.

Vuelta a España 2 hours ago

Another 105 km

- The lead of the five continues to fluctuate around 4.20.

For now, Terpstra is looking fine.

The five now have a 4.20 minute lead on the peloton, but they do not seem really promising for the stage victory.

Zeeman does not rule out that it will be decided at a later time to withdraw Dumoulin from the Vuelta.

"As soon as the assessment is that it is not good for him, we make the decision that he will step down. He really wants to contribute and go with the team for the overall victory, but it must also be good for Tom himself."

Dumoulin wants to help Roglic

Tom Dumoulin can forget a good classification, but the Dutchman still wants to be of value in this Vuelta for Primoz Roglic, for example.

"He looks a bit different now and would like to stay to help the team. We are going to put him on the economy mode today and tomorrow, so that he takes good care of himself, gets his energy back and can be of value at the weekend," says Sporty director Merijn Zeeman.

Vuelta a España 3 hours ago

148 km to go -

The lead of Terpstra and the four other refugees increases even further and is now 3.15 minutes.

Vuelta a España 3 hours ago

Roglic and Jumbo-Visma will find this leading group fine.

Terpstra is there!

The Dutchman has chosen a good time, because with his four fellow refugees he is already 2.15 minutes ahead of the peloton.

The battle for the flight of the day seems to be over quickly.

Mark Donovan (Sunweb), Tosh Van der Sande (Lotto Soudal), Niki Terpstra (Total Direct Energie), Aritz Bagües (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) and Willie Smit (Burgos-BH) immediately take a minute ahead of the peloton.
