• Back Dan Martin reigns in La Laguna Negra

A few months ago, October

25, 2020

appeared as the

best day in the history of cycling

.

The postponements due to the coronavirus pandemic had forced the organizers of the great World Tour events to look for new dates, and the rush of the calendar resulted in an exceptional day: the classic

Paris-Roubaix

, the climb to the Tourmalet in the

Tour of Spain

and the final time trial to decide the winner of the

Giro d'Italia

.

Well, none of that.

The

Paris-Roubaix

was canceled on the 9th due to the increase in coronavirus infections in France and the health alert in the metropolitan area of

Lille

, site of the test.

And in addition, the Vuelta announced today that it is forced to modify the stage of this Sunday, its sixth day of competition, due to the state of health emergency that has been decreed throughout France.

The

Gallic country

, as it did a couple of days ago with the stage of the Giro d'Italia that was scheduled to take place this Saturday at the

Izoard

, has prohibited the passage of the Spanish peloton through its towns and mountains.

"They have withdrawn the authorization we had to pass through France," explained Mauro Vegni, the director of the Giro.

Therefore, the Vuelta will not climb the

Tourmalet

or enter France this Sunday.

Instead, the organization has scheduled a stage that will depart from

Biescas

, as planned, but changes the entire route.

146.4 km that include a climb to Alto de Petralba (3rd), Alto de Cotefablo (2nd) and a new pass through Biescas (intermediate sprint) before the final ascent to

Aramón Formigal

station

.

3,040 m of accumulated ascent and 1,647 m of average elevation gain.

A summit that, although it does not have the fame of the Tourmalet, offers an ascent of almost 27 kilometers from Biescas.

It is the same climb of that stage of the

2016 Vuelta

in which

Alberto Contador attacked from the beginning, leaving Chris Froome cut off

and paving the way for Nairo Quintana's red jersey.

Like all arrivals at the top of La Vuelta 20, access will be

restricted to the public

.

A measure that is part of the strict sanitary protocols that prevail this year in the race.
