The head of the Sharjah Sports Council, Issa Hilal, confirmed that there is a special budget for the Central Region in Sharjah, amounting to 15 million dirhams, in order to support and spread various team and individual sports there.
He said that this would keep the march of excellence in sports work in the 23 clubs, in the various regions of Sharjah.
He stressed that they will support various games, and said: We refuse to freeze any game in Sharjah's 23 clubs.
He said that the availability of support has paid off, citing the example of the victory of Al-Bataih in many tournaments, and Sharjah's return to the Basketball League title after an absence of 16 years, in addition to the hand title for the 14th time, and before them the soccer team won the league championship after an absence of 23 years.
This came during a communication meeting with the media of the Chairman of the Sharjah Council, organized by the Sharjah Press Club.
"The goal of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, is to have 23 sports clubs in the emirate, it is not to win cups and medals, but to create and create leaders in various fields," he told Emirates Today.
Regarding some of the championships that have been canceled, including a league over 40 years old, he said: “The aim of it was for generations to communicate and for community sporting meetings, but the championship took another direction, as there are those who requested a budget and bonuses amounting to one million dirhams, but there are projects that may bear fruit better than That, and indeed, support was directed to the Khorfakkan Futsal Championship.
Despite that, the council is ready to adopt the league, if the clubs want, and for the sake of the desired goal.
