Liverpool and Ajax Amsterdam have not faced each other in European football cups since 1966. The reunion between the English club and its Dutch counterpart will not be remembered, however.

This October 21, for their debut in this Group D of the 2020-2021 Champions League, the two teams first tried to suffocate the opponent.

Ajax's strategy was nonetheless disrupted in the 9th minute and the exit from injury of Ghanaian striker Mohammed Kudus.

An ineffective Ajax

In general, the Amstellodamois lacked success and even luck, like defender Nicolás Tagliafico who scored against his camp following a cross-shot from Sadio Mané (0-1, 33 ').

The midfielder Davy Klaassen was not varnished either when he saw his attempt being pushed back by the opposing left upright (46th).

Just like winger Dusan Tadic whose subtle lob attempt was annihilated by a Fabinho clearing the ball on his goal line (44th).

Confident in the Netherlands, the visitors offered themselves the luxury of suddenly bringing out their attacking trio, Mohamed Salah-Roberto Firmino-Sadio Mané (60th).

To the very visible disappointment of the Egyptian, the Brazilian and the Senegalese.

But the facts proved their trainer, Jurgen Klopp, right.

The "Reds" have imposed themselves away, a week before welcoming the modest Danish side of FC Midtjylland, stricken 4-0 by an Atalanta Bergamo who will challenge Ajax in Italy on October 27.
