Julian Alaphilippe crashed heavily after hitting a motorcycle on the Tour of Flanders.

World champion Julian Alaphilippe will have to wear a cast on his right hand for three weeks, the Deceuninck team announced on Monday the day after the Frenchman fell in the Tour of Flanders.

The Belgian team puncher, who suffers from fractures of the pasterns 2 and 4 of his right hand, underwent surgery on Monday morning.

"We are happy to announce that everything went well," announced the Belgian team.

Once the cast is removed, Julian will resume training and begin physiotherapy so that he regains full mobility in his hand ”.

Alaphilippe, quoted by his team, said he "thought of the worst" when he crashed after hitting a motorcycle of a race marshal who had slowed down inside a curve.

"The accident was a frightening moment," said the Frenchman.

I am very grateful to the race doctors, but also to the medical staff at the Renaix and Herentals hospitals for all they have done for me over the past 24 hours ”.
