Fernando Gaviria, who has won five Giro stages during his career, will not complete this year's edition of the Italian classic.

The 26-year-old tested positive for covid-19 during the rest day yesterday.

This is the second time Gaviria has been infected with the virus, the first time was in March.

The stable writes in a press release that Gaviria was immediately isolated but that he is well and has no symptoms.

Previously, top-tipped Simon Yates, star Steven Kruijswijk and Michael Matthews have also given positive tests. In addition, the stables Jumbo Visma and Mitchelton-Scott have completely withdrawn from the competition due to several cases of covid-19.
