The Stanley Cup ended three weeks ago and the idea is that the next NHL season will begin on New Year's Day.

Thornton's plan is to play with Davos until the NHL season begins.

- I have followed the development, all the talk about what will happen to me.

I have a desire to play in the NHL and will be able to prepare myself here in Switzerland, says Thornton received number 97 to Tages-Anzeiger.

Thornton has both Canadian and Swiss citizenship.

The latter due to the fact that he is married to a Swiss.

He has previously played in Davos during two lockout seasons and the club describes it as: "The legend has returned".

Last season, Thornton played 70 games for San José, a club he has belonged to since 2005, and scored 31 points (7 + 24).

The one-year contract with Toronto is worth SEK 6.2 million.

Thornton has scored 1509 points in 1636 games in the NHL.

Thornton is the player still active in the NHL with the most assists and points.

Throughout NHL history, Thornton is seventh in the assist league.

"Crazy to see which names are at the top of the list"

Now that Thornton is leaving San José, the place will be taken by another 41-year-old, Patrick Marleau, whose one-year contract is also worth SEK 6.2 million.

Marleau is making his 23rd season in the NHL, has made 1723 appearances, and is still chasing his first championship title.

He also has the chance to reach Gordie Howe's record for most games played in the NHL, which is 1767.

- It's pretty crazy to see which names are there at the top of the list considering which giant stars we're talking about.

So I realize I'm in good company.

I try not to think so much about that but take one day at a time.

If it happens, it happens, Marleu says according to Expressen.
