Peres Jepchirchir sank to his knees and then posed with a Kenyan flag in the Polish port city of Gdynia on the Baltic coast.

After 18 km of running, world record holder Abadel Yeshaneh and Joyciline Jepkosgei, who had the previous record, hooked each other and hit the asphalt hard and the group of seven runners burst open.

A close trio was formed with Jepchirchir, the Ethiopian Yalemzerf Yehualaw and the German Melat Yisak Kejeta.

Jepchirchir was clearly the strongest in the sprint while Kejeta came back and snatched the silver just before Yehualaw.

Yeshaneh and Jepkosgei ran into goals as fifth and sixth around half a minute after the lead.

Charlotta Fougberg improved her personal best from 1.11.58 to 1.10.19 after finishing 19th.

Carolina Wikström finished 37th on 1.11.31.

Abadel Yeshaneh's world record from earlier this year is 1.04.31.
