On Sunday, in a championship match, Asvel played American Norris Cole for 40 seconds.

Problem, the player had tested positive for coronavirus.

A decision that angered the mayor of Cholet, who is considering prosecution.

He may have left the field after 40 seconds of play, the presence of Norris Cole on the floor of the basketball hall in Cholet could have serious consequences.

Sunday, during the meeting between Villeurbanne and Cholet in Elite basketball, the American player was the holder when he had tested positive for coronavirus.

A situation which provoked the anger of the mayor of the town, who intends to initiate proceedings.

During these 40 seconds, Norris Cole walked the floor, touched the ball, before being called back to the sidelines.

Just before kick-off, his club had learned that the American was positive for Covid-19.

Why, then, did he start the meeting?

His coach Freddy Fauthoux says he warned the League, but that it was impossible to remove it: on the scoresheet, Norris Cole is the holder, supposed, therefore, to play from the start.

"I did what was asked of me," he continues.

"We can very well have a cluster"

For the mayor of Cholet, Gilles Bourdoulex, this decision is totally irresponsible in view of the health context.

"We are really in a completely surreal, and even criminal situation," he said indignantly at the microphone of Europe 1. "We have a player whose positivity we know, who touched a number of things during the when he was in the room, who was able to approach the volunteers, the other players. And even if the spectators have a mask, we can very well have a cluster tomorrow ".

The mayor does not intend to stop there, and wants to sue the club Asvel, and the basketball league for endangering others.

Until health procedures are reassessed, he says, he refuses to have another basketball game played in the town hall.
