Olympic Marathon and Racewalking Course Measured for World Athletics Federation Certification Sapporo October 10, 11:42

The Games Organizing Committee has begun measuring the marathon and racewalking courses of the Tokyo Olympic Games in Sapporo next year on the 10th in order to be certified by the World Athletics Federations, an international track and field organization.

At the Tokyo Olympics scheduled for next year, racewalking will be held on August 5th and 6th, and marathons will be held on August 7th and 8th in Sapporo, not in Tokyo, where intense heat is a concern.

Qualified measurers must correctly measure the distance of the course to hold marathons and racewalks, and the Games Organizing Committee will do so on the 10th and 11th.

The first day, the 10th, is a marathon course, and from midnight when there is little traffic, four qualified measurers such as the World Athletics Federation ride a bicycle equipped with a counter to measure the distance. I ran the course, occasionally got off the bike and recorded it on paper for 4 hours.

Yasuo Mori, Deputy Director of the Games Organizing Committee, said at a press conference after the measurement, "The measurement proceeded smoothly and was completed successfully. It is extremely important to finalize the course before it snows."

On top of that, he said, "If certified, it will be a course that can be used not only in the Olympic Games but also in various ways. The person in charge of the World Athletics Federation has the recognition that it is a very flat and wonderful course with no height difference." I did.

The Games Organizing Committee will measure the racewalking on the 11th, and if all goes well, it is expected to be certified by the World Athletics Federation around the end of next month.
