There are no longer any French on the clay courts at Roland-Garros.

The last French representative Fiona Ferro was eliminated in the round of 16 by the American Sofia Kenin on Monday, October 5.

She lost in three sets (2-6, 6-2, 6-1) against the winner of the Australian Open 2020.

Justine Ferro thus experiences her first defeat since the post-Covid-19 recovery.

She had hitherto chained 18 consecutive victories, with her successes in two preparation tournaments organized by the French Tennis Federation in July, in Nice and Cannes, her WTA trophy in Palermo, then her first three laps past Porte d'Auteuil.

Ferro speed pickup

Under the new roof of the Central, she negotiated the first set perfectly.

After two shy first games, she lined up six by maneuvering Kenin ideally, either by daring on the return or her second stroke of the racket, or by varying the trajectories and prolonging the exchanges.

But the American was then more incisive and limited her number of faults, when the Frenchwoman, more and more picking up speed, she lost in initiative and solidity.

Sofia Kenin will face Tunisian Ons Jabeur (35th) or American Danielle Collins (57th) for a place in the last four.

This last ladies' round of 16 scheduled for Monday on the Suzanne-Lenglen court, was rescheduled for Tuesday because of the rain.

It's over for Fiona Ferro 😰

Despite winning the 1st set, the Frenchwoman is eliminated by Sofia Kenin!

Impressive, the American wins 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 and qualifies for the 1st time in the 1/4 final of # RG20

Djokovic takes the Khachanov test

World No.1 Novak Djokovic won 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 against Russian Karen Khachanov and will play his 14th quarter-final at Roland Garros, tying Rafael Nadal's record.

"The match was very balanced and more difficult than what the result shows," commented the Serbian.

In the end, I regained my serve at the right time and my legs ran well, quickly, on the important points. "

Djokovic has therefore still not lost a single set since the start of the tournament where he is aiming for an 18th Grand Slam title to get closer to Roger Federer (20) and Nadal (19).

"I did not lose a set until the quarter-finals, that's good. I feel good on the court and ... let's go!", He said.

He also notched his 35th victory this season, with the only failure his disqualification in the round of 16 of the US Open.

He also improved on Monday one of his own records, reaching his 11th quarter at Roland Garros in a row.

He will play his 47th quarterfinal, 10 lengths from Federer's record (57).

He will face in the quarter-finals either the Spaniard Pablo Carreno (18th) or the German Daniel Altmaier (186th and from qualifying).

1️⃣1️⃣st qualification in a quarter in a row at Roland Garros for Djokovic!
