The day after the elimination of Frenchman Hugo Gaston against Dominic Thiem, his compatriot Fiona Ferro lost to Sofia Kenin in the round of 16 on Monday.

In the men, Novak Djokovic and Stéfanos Tsitsipas qualified for the quarter-finals. 

There are no more French at Roland Garros: Fiona Ferro lost Monday evening in the round of 16 of the tournament against the American Sofia Kenin in three sets.

Despite an easily dominated 6-2 first set, the 23-year-old Frenchwoman lost her means in the second set, concluded with the same score 6-2.

In the third set won 6-1, the American showed that her N.4 seeded status was not usurped against a demobilized Frenchwoman.

She will face the Tunisian Ons Jabeur or the American Danielle Collins.

In the other meetings of the day, the Czech Petra Kvitova, world No.11, qualified for the quarter-finals for the first time in eight years, beating the Chinese Shuai Zhang (39th) in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.

Kvitova had not reached this stage of the competition on Parisian clay since 2012 and her defeat in the semi-final against Maria Sharapova, the future winner.

Kvitova will face the German Laura Siegemund (66th), slayer of the Spanish Paola Badosa (87th) 7-5, 6-2, for a place in the last four.

Laura Siegemund (32) had never gone beyond the third round in a Grand Slam until then.

Still no set lost for Djokovic

In the men, Novak Djokovic clearly dismissed Karen Khachanov by winning 6-4, 6-3, 6-3.

The world No. 1 will play his 14th quarter-final at Roland Garros, tying Rafael Nadal's record.

In the next round, the Serbian will face the Spaniard Pablo Carreno (18th) or the German Daniel Altmaier (186th and from qualifying).

Novak Djokovic has therefore still not lost a single set since the start of the tournament where he is aiming for an 18th Grand Slam title to get closer to Roger Federer (20) and Nadal (19).

World No.6 Stefanos Tsitsipas will be the first Greek in the quarter-final of Roland Garros thanks to his victory over the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov (20th) in three sets 6-3, 7-6 (11/9), 6-2 Monday.

Stéfanos Tsitsipas, 22, will face Andrey Rublev (12th) for a place in the last four.

The Russian will play his first quarter-final at Roland Garros after beating Hungarian Marton Fucsovics (63rd) 6-7 (7-4), 7-5, 6-4, 7-6 after a long fight (7-3).
