  • After missing the final phase of the European Cup on the choice of his coaches, Maxime Médard returned to competition on Sunday during the success of Stade Toulousain on Toulon (39-19), in Top 14.

  • Water carrier for his Champions Cup teammates, the 33-year-old rear has not lost his competitive soul as he is perhaps playing the last season of his career.

At the Ernest-Wallon stadium,

When you spend a month in the fridge, you are inevitably fresh when you come out.

This is what proved by Maxime Médard (33 years old) and Lucas Tauzin (22 years old), aligned for 80 minutes during Sunday evening against Toulon (39-19).

The two three-quarters had not appeared in the Stade Toulousain group since the spectacular defeat in Clermont (33-30) on September 6, when the Top 14 opened.

Infuriating when you are a professional athlete, and even more so for Médard who is possibly playing the last season of a golden career.

“I did not necessarily have the fangs, there are other players in this club who are in a situation perhaps more delicate than mine, dropped the back to the 63 caps at the end of the meeting.

But I am a competitor, so obviously not very happy not to be aligned during the final phase of the European Cup.

As against La Rochelle (39-23) on the second day of the championship, Médard was not even on the scoresheet against Ulster (36-8) in the Champions Cup quarter-final, nor in Exeter in the half. (defeat, 28-18).

"I tried as best as possible to bring to the team, with my blue" water boy "vest, slipped the man with the most famous sideburns in France since Louis-Philippe.

Admittedly, this is not necessarily what I wanted to do, but here it is, it is like that.

"

A refused test that does not pass

In this remark, irony disputes him with frankness and a touch of bitterness.

Longtime Toulousain, still titular with the Blues a year ago during the World Cup in Japan, Médard does not want to end his sporting epic in the role of an extra.

Nor that we deprive him of a test in a rather incomprehensible way as against Toulon, in the middle of a dream stadist first half, on a very hypothetical pass in front of Cheslin Kolbe.

“I would like someone to explain to me.

Apparently it was the video referee who called the field referee.

There are too many video returns for every action, every try.

It's a bit annoying.

Words spoken in a calm tone by a double European champion and quadruple champion of France that one feels yet boiling inside.

The long international window which will soon open, with the start of the selection of a host of Toulouse, including possibly his competitor Thomas Ramos, should open up new perspectives.

Scalded, the rear or winger takes out a good big shot to get away from the subject, as he uses his left foot to hit in touch.

“We take match after match and we'll see.

I won't get wet.

But we do not go much forward by saying that he is seen more in a Red and Black jersey than in the blue outfit of a water carrier.
