  • After four wins in a row, Rennes have to be content with a draw against Rennes.

  • They still retain the first place in the championship thanks to a better attack compared to Lille.

  • Coach Julien Stéphan believes that this draw should sound like a reminder for his troops.

"Sometimes you have to be content with a point when you are less well".

After his team's draw against Reims this Sunday afternoon at Roazhon Park, Julien Stéphan was not choosy.

Because Stade Rennais still remains leader in Ligue 1 thanks to a better attack compared to Lille.

The Bretons especially did not deserve better against the penultimate of the championship.

“We do not deserve the victory on the match,” conceded captain Damien Da Silva.

The fault in a second half when the Rennes were non-existent despite their advantage in the score at the break.

"We only played half time out of two, so when we play half a match, we get a half result," said the Breton coach after the meeting.

The start of the match had not been glorious either.

From the 11th minute, Reims captain Abdelhamid opened the scoring with a superb cross header.

But Rennes quickly returned to the match thanks to Raphinha (24th), very much on his feet this Sunday, and his captain Damien Da Silva, again scorer on a helmet hit (37th).

A draw that sounds like a reminder

Back from the locker room, Rennes then completely foiled, leaving their opponent to score.

"We had less juice than usual in the second half, we were a bit far from the others," said Damien Da Silva.

Julien Stéphan also pointed out the state of fatigue of his players, much "less dynamic" than in the last matches.

“We attacked the spaces less and we lacked movement,” he said.

For Julien Stéphan, this conceded draw also sounds like a reminder.

"When we are not at 100%, we are not ultra-dominant, we do not have the same margin as PSG", underlined the Breton coach, who was wary before the match of the concert of praise surrounding the club.

“It's dangerous to listen to too much praise (…).

There is a danger of falling asleep and doing a little less, ”he stressed.

Captain Damien Da Silva also believes that this draw can only do good for his troops.

"This will give us a bit of a stick, it's good that it happens," he said after the meeting.
