Last month, the government announced that sports will receive an additional SEK 1 billion in support during the corona pandemic.

Today, Minister of Culture and Sports Amanda Lind (MP) had a press conference where she told more about how the new support should be distributed.

Ultimately, it is the Swedish Sports Confederation (RF) that is responsible for how the money is distributed, but the government wants RF to take more account of gender equality and how much need the various activities actually need.

- You can not only look at loss of income.

This money will help associations to survive, they will not be a bonus to recruit expensive players for, Lind said.

Men's football clubs received 95 percent earlier

The question of the different needs and conditions of businesses has previously been raised as, among other things, several Swedish football clubs continued to recruit players despite receiving corona support.

One reason for this was that this spring's sports support of half a billion kronor was designed to compensate for loss of income.

As a result, the men's clubs, which generally have much higher turnover than the women's largest associations, received 95 percent of the support for the elite football team.
