In the end, there were a total of nine birdies, just one bogey and 63 strokes for Björk.

The Swede shares second place with the Dutchman Joost Luiten - a head start on what is the European Tour's biggest competition since the game resumed after the corona break.

Only English veteran Lee Westwood was sharper than Alexander Björk and leads on 62 strokes, nine under par, after, among other things, two eagles.

Westwood, Björk and Luiten were all lucky enough to play the first round a little later in the day, when the rain had stopped.

30-year-old Björk is not the only Swede who has started well on the Scottish links course. Marcus Kinhult - also a late starter - shares eighth place with five under par, while strong Joakim Lagergren - third and fifth in his last two competitions - is three under par. A blow behind Lagergren is also the veteran Peter Hanson.
