Flamengovid-19 got away with it.

We don't really know how, by the way.

The reigning Brazilian champion went for a draw against Palmeiras despite the absence of 19 players from the squad due to coronavirus.

Forced to play after trying unsuccessfully to postpone the match, Flamengo did it with the means at hand.

A Rio court ruled on Saturday to postpone the match before a higher court invalidated it in a last-minute rebound.

19 players and 18 contaminated employees, including the president

Ten minutes after this decision, Flamengo had to face Palmeiras with a team composed mainly of players from its U20 squad.

In addition to the 19 players, 18 employees of the Flamengo club have also tested positive for the coronavirus, including President Rodolfo Landim.

On August 12, four Atlético Goianiense players who tested positive for Covid-19 had conversely been authorized to play a match by the Brazilian Football Confederation, the club arguing that they were no longer contagious.

At the time, more than 160 cases of Covid-19 had been identified in Brazilian first division clubs.
