The Schalke-Bremen match was held without an audience due to the increasing number of Corona patients

German football club Schalke announced today, Saturday, that its scheduled match against Werder Bremen today in the second phase of the German League (Bundesliga) will be played without fans.

This followed the intervention of the local authorities in light of the increasing number of people infected with the new Corona virus, in the city of Gelsenkirchen, in western Germany, where the Schalke stadium is located.

The data published by the German Robert Koch Institute for Infectious and Non-communicable Diseases revealed today, Saturday, that the number of injuries in Gelsenkirchen exceeded the rate of 35 cases per 100,000 people, reaching 39.5, after which the Schalke Club announced in a statement that this means that the match will be held without an audience. .

As of Friday, the rate had reached 33.4 cases per 100,000 people, which boosted Schalke's hopes of hosting about 11,000 fans in the stadium, and tickets were sold accordingly, but with the fans not attending, they should get the ticket money back.

This will be the third time that it has been decided to ban the attendance of fans hours before the start of a match in the German League, although the competition is still in the second phase.

Similar measures were taken before the Bayern Munich match against Schalke 04 and the Cologne match against Hoffenheim in the first stage of the Bundesliga.
