  • Renaud Emond, who should still take place on the Nantes bench during the trip to Lille this Friday evening, scored his first goal in L1 on Sunday.

  • The Belgian striker, who arrived on the banks of the Erdre in January, has not yet convinced observers, and especially Christian Gourcuff.

  • Wherever he goes, the Belgian has to prove more than other players despite often very good statistics.

“You have to put it on… Renaud [Emond] had the feeling on this deflected free kick… The ball hit the post, he moved his pelvis back and kicked with his left foot while he is right-handed.

"Philippe Emond is the best VRP of his son Renaud, equalizer scorer Sunday against Saint-Etienne (2-2) and for the first time in Ligue 1 since his arrival at the beginning of the year.

On a daily basis, dad rather praises the merits of his BMW cars in his numerous dealerships of which he is the manager in Belgium and Luxembourg.

A time-consuming job that did not prevent him from coming twice to Beaujoire to see “his only son”, against Paris (1-2 defeat) last season and against Nîmes (2-1 victory) at the end of August.

Against Tuchel's squad, his protégé had missed two duels with Navas.

Dad doesn't go all the way: "You missed the opportunity to change your life, I told him."

People would have looked different if he had put them on!

"

To score, it is however the number 1 asset which escorts the career of Renaud Emond.

The 28-year-old forward has often been at the head of the Jupiler Pro League champions.

As in 2015, the year he finished top scorer (with 14 goals) at Beveren.

At Standard, he also plants 37 goals between 2017 and 2019 and seven in 14 games before his arrival (pushed by agent Mogi Bayat) on the banks of the Erdre.

“Renaud, he does not raise the crowds!

"

Statistics that were never enough to make him a Red Devil or even a renowned striker.

“I always have to prove more, it's part of my profile and part of my life.

I'm used to it.

"Why this mistrust vis-à-vis a player who had scored in Nantes during his first tenure against Lyon in the Coupe de France last January?

“It comes from my style of play. I'm not very spectacular, it's not me who will take the ball and dribble four defenders.

Papa Emond agrees with his offspring: "Renaud, he does not raise the crowds.

He is in the business.

He has a sense of purpose, of placement.

"

"The goal he scored, he scored a lot like that in Belgium," Dennis Appiah admitted after the draw (2-2) against the Greens.

"It is not the most difficult and spectacular goal that he has certainly scored," said coach Christian Gourcuff.

"But, he is in the right place, at the right time, incenses Philippe Emond.

If Renaud, he misses like some of the big chances in the semi-finals or final of the Champions League, he burns his house.

He is not treated the same as others!

The father relies on the statistics of his son whom he knows by heart.

In the smallest details.

“I don't know what it takes to have a good CV!

He breathes.

Before slipping: "Ah, for sure Renaud, he's not going to go like Neymar in big rides or make two small bridges to please the footix!

This is not him.

"

On the bench now with the outbreak of Kolo Muani

Since he put his bags in Nantes, the Belgian has been hampered twice by injuries.

The outbreak of Kolo Muani for a month relegates him to the bench of substitutes today.

Renaud does not flinch.

Gourcuff praises "his exemplary mentality" and a boy "who does not make waves".

"Randal [Kolo Muani] deserves to play for the moment", confesses, handsome player, the Belgian.

“Everywhere he went, everyone thought he was lost and he always came back from the cellar!

"It's my story," Emond smiles.

Every time I arrive somewhere, it doesn't always go the way it should, but in the end it often goes well!
