Agne Simosson passed away yesterday and turned 84 years old.

- He became a little more awkward the last few weeks and then suffered a pneumonia.

And yesterday it unfortunately ended.

I was up a couple of days before and then I knew what was going to happen.

So then I said goodbye to him, says his brother Roy Simonsson to Göteborgs-Posten.

Simonsson is one of three Swedes who scored in a World Cup final.

The other two are Nils Liedholm and Hanna Ljungberg.

The goal came in the World Cup final at Råsunda against Brazil (2-5).

He broke through in Örgryte in the late 1950s and was selected for the World Cup.

The following year, 1959, he lowered England at Wembley by two goals.

It was considered so strange that he was awarded the Golden Ball the same year.

Until then, England had only lost once at home to a team outside the British Isles.

Simonsson's epithet therefore became "The King of Wembley".

Ralf Edström: "Elegant player"

In the same vein, foreign clubs became interested and he played a couple of seasons in Spain, in Real Madrid and Real Sociedad, before coming home and ending his career at home in Gothenburg and Örgryte IS.

After his playing career, he became a coach in both BK Häcken and ÖIS, where he led the team to its latest Swedish Championship gold in 1985. In the late 1980s, he coached Greek Iraklis for a couple of seasons.

Ralf Edström played in Örgryte between 1983 and 1985 and had Agne Simonsson as coach.

- Agne was a very special person.

A little difficult to come up with sometimes, a little special humor.

I met him when he turned 80 a few years ago.

I stood there waiting, and then he waved me to him, says Edström to GP.

Edström's childhood idol was Simonsson.

- He was an elegant player, says Edström.
