AS Roma was punished on Tuesday with a regulatory 3-0 defeat against Hellas Verona in the Serie A. Midfielder Amadou Diawara participated in the Italian top club on Saturday while he was not eligible to play.

Roma had forgotten to register Diawara, who turned 23 on July 17, for the game in Verona.

According to the rules, all players over the age of 22 must be registered.

Midfielder Diawara was in the starting line-up and was replaced just before time.

The match in Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi ended scoreless, but now goes into the books as a 3-0 victory for Hellas Verona.

Diawara has been playing for AS Roma since last summer, which took him over from Napoli, where the Guinea was under contract for three seasons.

Last season he was a basic player in Rome, although he was sidelined for a while with injuries.

The game with Hellas Verona was the opening of the Serie A season for Roma.

The next game for Justin Kluivert's team is on Sunday, when national champions Juventus comes to visit.
