In November, the European Championship qualifiers for the Swedish basketball masters would have continued with matches against the Netherlands away and against Croatia at home.

But to minimize the risk of spreading the infection, the International Basketball Federation has decided that the men's qualifying matches in November will be played in isolated bubbles in one and the same place.

- We would like to play at home, of course.

Recently we have played in large arenas such as the Court and the Globe and there have been folk festivals.

But with the conditions that prevail, it must be safe and secure to play and then this is the alternative that we see that other sports also go to, says national team manager Fredrik Joulamo to SVT Sport.

The European Championship qualifiers against the Netherlands and Turkey in February 2021 will also be played in an isolated bubble.

At present, it is not clear which countries will host the isolated qualifier.

Unclear about the ladies' qualifiers

Joulamo says that Sweden does not have the capacity required to arrange the qualifying game but believes that it falls on one of the major basketball nations.

- It requires too much logistics for Sweden to have the required muscles at such short notice.

I think it's between the "big dragons".

The Baltics, the Balkans or countries such as Italy, Spain, France and Germany.

How does this affect you financially?

- It is clear that we do not make any profit but on the other hand there will be many fewer trips for our players so I do not think it is just negative financially.

For Sweden's ladies, Israel is waiting at home in the European Championship qualifiers on 15 November.

It is still unclear whether the ladies will also play in an isolated bubble.

No final decision has been made.

There is an opening to move that match to the February window but I do not know how it will be.
