Lucas Pouille, still recovering after a right elbow operation in July, will not play Roland-Garros, which begins exceptionally in ten days (September 27-October 11), his entourage announced Thursday.

“The rehabilitation phase following the operation on his right elbow continues to go very well: Lucas has recently been able to return to the training courts.

Unfortunately, despite the rapid progress made, it is still too early to hope to resume competition in optimal conditions, ”the statement said.

Sorry to have to announce my package for @rolandgarros 😢 💔 The rehabilitation of my right elbow is going very well and I was recently able to resume training, but it is still too fair to resume competition.

Hope to see you back at the end of October, look forward to seeing you again!

“In agreement with his team and with the medical profession, Lucas therefore decided not to line up at Roland-Garros.

If all goes well, however, he still hopes to play again before the end of the 2020 season, normally at the end of October, ”he adds.

Tsonga will return in 2021

The former world number 10, now 60th in the ATP rankings, has not played a single game on the main circuit in 2020. He gave up at the start of the season because of his painful elbow.

His attempt to return to the Indian Wells Challenger in early March, just before the Covid-19 pandemic crippled professional tennis for five months, ended in an entry defeat.

On Wednesday, it was Jo-Wilfried Tsonga who was forced to announce his package.

A persistent injury in the pelvis forces him to end his season, he explained in a video posted on social networks.

2020 is to be forgotten 😢

But I still have the morale, the rage, the desire & the motivation to come back in 2021 hoping that things will evolve positively 🙏🏽 To

find the courts & to fight against all these incredible players would be a dream ... 💪🏽
