Final deal: Bayern Munich sells Alcantara to Liverpool

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed today, Thursday, that Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara will leave the Bavarian club and join Liverpool.

Rummenigge told the German newspaper Bild, "I can confirm that Bayern reached a final agreement with Liverpool. It was Thiago's desire to do something different near the end of his career."

The media estimated the transfer deal for Thiago, 29, to Liverpool, at 20 million euros, which could rise to 25 million euros with the addition of incentives.

Throughout this summer, there was widespread speculation about Liverpool's desire to include Thiago, before the German coach Jurgen Klopp went out and confirmed last week that he was a Thiago fan.

"It's wonderful to be associated with him," Klopp said. "It is very much true."

"This is because he is a good player, and Liverpool is a big club, so this is great. Unfortunately, I cannot end the speculation."

Thiago is set to become Liverpool's second signing this summer, after the signing of defender Costas Tsimikas.

Thiago joined Bayern in 2013 from Barcelona and won all the titles with the Bavarian club, the last of which were the League, Cup and Champions League triples last season.

He has also won the Spanish national team with Bayern Munich, with seven titles in a row in the Bundesliga.
