  • Olympique de Marseille lost 2 goals to 0 against Saint-Etienne for their first match of the season at the Stade Vélodrome.

  • The Stéphanois take first place in the standings thanks to goals from Hamouma and Bouanga, two players in good shape at the start of the season.

  • Marseille coach André Villas Boas made a mistake in his choices by aligning Balerdi to the right of the defense and Maxime Lopez in the attacking trio.

At the Velodrome stadium,

A classic too many.

Olympique de Marseille lost Thursday night against Saint-Etienne 0-2 for their first home game of the Ligue 1 season, while the Greens had not won at the Vélodrome since 1979. Far too imprecise, the Olympians leave first place in the standings to their evening opponent, four days after beating PSG.

A match that still seemed a bit too much in the minds and legs.

The solid Stéphanois, fit players.

The Greens returned to their match much better than the Marseillais, like this opening of the very fast score of Romain Hamouma, from the 5th.

If they were not thunderous thereafter, with some approximations in the passes and less offensive animation, the other player in form at the start of the season, Denis Bouanga, came to shower the hopes of returning to the score of Marseillais.

Thanks to a superbly led counter, the Stéphanois offensive midfielder crucified Mandanda in the 75th.

Sainté plays as well as it makes me angry to play without nine when you're not Spain (and already it strained me a bit).

Too many inaccuracies among the Marseillais.

Terrible start to the match on the part of the Marseillais, and in particular the defenders.

Errors which cost the opening of the scoring from the 5th minute by Romain Hamouma, with Alvaro Gonzalez spectator and Caleta Car late.

All it took was a control of Denis Bouanga's back ten minutes later to once again put the defense in difficulty.

On the recovery side, there were a lot of difficulties on the Olympian side with a series of imprecision, especially from Caleta Car.

In front, it is often the last gesture that failed, like Thauvin who does not manage to straighten the ball with his left foot (11th), or to get rid of young Fofana (40th).

Clearly a very big responsibility of AVB this evening in this defeat.

The starting line-up I still don't understand. # OMASSE

Changes that are good for OM.

André Villas Boas made a mistake in the choice of his composition by aligning Balerdi to the right of the defense.

It was not his replacement to the left during the first period that changed anything, the Portuguese coach changed him by Bouna Sarr at half-time he was taking so much broth.

On the offensive side, it was Maxime Lopez who was transparent throughout the first period, with bad passes or missed shots like his hand in the area on a beautiful center from Payet (43rd).

His replacement by Aké did good for OM's offensive animation, even if he was not much happier by touching the bar while the goal was reaching out to him.

They especially failed to reverse the outcome of the match
