Colombian Miguel Angel "Superman" Lopez won the stage after making an attack under the lifts in the alpine area Meribel with just under three kilometers left up to the finish line on the Col de la Loze at 2304 meters altitude, the highest point on this year's tour.

Last year's Giro d'Italia winner Richard Carapaz, who led 18 of the 21 km in the final climb on the serpentine roads, passed the last slopes.

It was a terrible climb with a 24 percent slope as the worst near the goal.

Overall leader Primoz Roglic was eleven seconds behind Lopez in goal and added another 17 seconds to Slovenian compatriot Tadej Pogacar who was third in goal.

Lopez is a new total of three.

- It was crazy tough at the end.

The last kilometers were brutal.

I am very happy with the effort.

However, I did not win the stage and the lead to Tadej is not yet enough, says Roglic to the Tour de France after the stage and thinks of the Slovenian duel that continues in the mountains.

Macron's red escort car was just after Pogacar over the finish line and the president stepped out and was able to cheer on the rest of the cyclists who fought their way to the finish line.

- It is a very special day and I have worked hard for this.

It suits me very well to ride at these heights, it was like riding at home and this was where I would take the chance.

It is not only a stage victory but now I am also top 3 overall, says Lopez to Eurosport and tells that he misses his wife and family who are still at home in Colombia.

The Tour de France finishes in Paris on Sunday.
