The Tokyo Olympics should have been over already, but due to the corona pandemic, it is barely a year until the planned inauguration ceremony.

Then the IOC wants to convey that they are aware of the situation.

- Our decision right now is to get rid of it.

What we are waiting for is to decide what measures we need to take, depending on the stage of the corona pandemic.

To what extent there will be ceremonies, how many spectators there will be and if any quarantine is needed when coming to Japan.

All that, says Vice President John Coates in Sydney.

Decisions on possible measures will be made at the end of the year and Coates also says that "the Olympics will be given all the resources needed".

Five-time Olympic champion and former swimming star Ian Thorpe was also present at the 20th anniversary of the Sydney Olympics, but he is not as positive as Coates.

- Human health is the most important thing.

So it is important to have perspective and if we do not have any treatment or vaccine against covid-19 then maybe the Olympics can not get rid of, he says.
