Stage winner Tadej Pogacar ran four seconds behind yellow jersey carrier Primoz Roglic in the fifteenth stage of the Tour de France on Sunday in the bonus seconds.
The number two in the rankings saw, due to the execution of Jumbo-Visma at the top of the group with favorites, no possibility to try to take more time.
"Jumbo-Visma rode at a killer pace all day," said Pogacar after the finish on the Grand Colombier.
"Together with the heat that made for a very tough stage. So as far as I am concerned it made no sense to attack."
The 21-year-old Slovenian has already shown this Tour that he is not afraid to place an attack, but on Sunday he only accelerated in the last hectometers of the difficult final climb.
With first Robert Gesink, then again a very strong Wout van Aert and lastly Tom Dumoulin, Jumbo-Visma discouraged all competitors on the final climb of the hors category to attack earlier.
"Jumbo-Visma was really prepared to do everything together today. That's why I waited for the sprint", said Pogacar, who turned out to be just a bit stronger than Roglic in the sprint at 1,500 meters and thus booked his second stage victory of this Tour. .
"I am very happy that I won again."
The leader of Team UAE Team Emirates received ten seconds of bonuses for his victory, compared to six seconds for number two Roglic.
In the standings, Pogacar narrowed his gap to his fellow countryman from 44 to 40 seconds.
"The plan is to do everything to win the Tour", said the number three of last year's Vuelta.
"At the moment Roglic seems unbeatable, but today Egan Bernal cracked (the defending champion lost more than seven minutes, ed.) And there may also come a day when I squat or Roglic squats. You never know in a round of three weeks, I still have a chance to win. "
