Romain Bardet, who suffers from a concussion after his fall, must abandon the Tour de France on the evening of the 13th stage, we learned from his team, AG2R La Mondiale.

The French runner took exams at the Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital after the finish of the race at Puy Mary (Cantal) on Friday 11 September.

He occupied 11th place in the standings.

"The fall was violent, downhill, and I struggled all day," said Romain Bardet.

"The medical exams confirmed what I was expecting and I am not able to continue the race."
