Victoria Azarenka reached the final of the US Open on the night from Thursday to Friday.

The Belarusian surprised Serena Williams in the last four and meets Naomi Osaka in the final battle.

Azarenka defeated Williams 1-6, 6-3 and 6-3.

and is in the final in New York for the third time.

In 2012 and 2013 she just missed the title.

Both times she lost to Williams.

The 31-year-old Azarenka can conquer her third Grand Slam title in her career on Flushing Meadows.

In 2012 and 2013, the former number one in the world won the Australian Open.

It is Azarenka's first Grand Slam final in seven years.

In 2016 she decided to stop tennis temporarily due to pregnancy, but returned to the court a year later.

In recent years, the number 27 in the world at Grand Slam tournaments did not get further than the third round.

Williams has been in the final of the US Open for the past two years.

She then lost successively to Osaka and Bianca Andreescu, who canceled from the Grand Slam tournament because of the corona measures in New York and because she did not expect to be fit enough.

By missing the final, Williams again fails to capture her 24th Grand Slam title.

She would match the record of the Australian Margaret Court.

The Japanese set aside the surprising American Jennifer Brady 7-6 (1), 3-6 and 6-3.

Osaka can take her third Grand Slam title in New York.
