Two years ago, they broke through with gold at the Youth Olympics in Buenor Aires and were awarded the Lilla Bragdguldet.

It was a flying start to a career that is expected to lead to the highest level in the world ...

- Many are impressed with how we play.

They think it's fun to see us play, says Jonatan Hellvig from Lidingö after a training session at Gärdet in Stockholm.

Revolutionizing beach volleyball

It is a revolutionary assault weapon, which is the secret of 18-year-olds.

Hellvig and Åhman send the reception far towards the net and go there either on attack directly on the second ball or fool the opponent - fits in the air and feints away the opponent block.

A groundbreaking game strategy that they are unique in using consistently and that has been refined over the years.

- We succeeded very well in France and that is why we managed to win, says Hellvig.

- One from the secretariat down in France came up and said that we call you The Ninjas because you play so fast and differently, Åhman laughs.

But the opponents at the World Tour could keep laughing.

- When we beat Chile and France, they played well in the beginning but were clearly frustrated when it hit them, laughs the coach and national team captain Rasmus Jonsson.

Competitors are trying to copy

Hellvig and Åhman's style of play is something that attracts others to follow - but it does not seem to go over a season as it did in the ski jumping world with Janne Boklöv's V-style.

- We see it more and more, on social media that some do and in some competitions.

But we are the only ones who have really trained a lot on it and honed it and used it on every ball, says Hellvig about the competitors' chances of turning their backs on them.

- It is an incredible level of difficulty.

Established couples on the world tour will not dare to try it and lose matches in the beginning.

It is easier for us who started working with it when they were 15-year-olds and worn it out, then have thousands of repetitions on this and now can beat world teams, says Rasmus Jonsson.

Help from the coaching legend

Behind the boys' success is partly the national team captain Rasmus Jonsson but also the coaching legend Anders Kristiansson, who in 1989 led Sweden to a silver medal at the European Championships in the Globe.

He praises the boys' WT victory but says that they have a lot to learn before you can win against the very best in the world.

- Fantastic to win the World Tour competition in France, but there are things we need to get better at.

We have to become much better servers, for example, and much more confident in our way of playing, says Kristansson.

- I do not know how to win, but challenge the top 10 in the world next year, I think we can, says Anders Kristiansson, who points out that the goal is to be up there and threaten when it comes time for the Olympics in Paris 2024.

New European Championship gold in sight

The Olympic chance already in 2012 is distant, but in the short term, new European Championship gold is being hunted right now.

Only now in the Czech Republic at the U-20 European Championships and two weeks later - the U22 European Championships in Turkey.

- If we play at our highest level, we have very good chances to take it home, says Åhman.

And it started well on Thursday.

Åhman / Hellvig won their first two European Championship matches in Brno quite easily today against a Slovak and a Belgian team.

The tournament ends with a final on Sunday.
