It was a victory for Naomi Osaka in two straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, against the American Shelby Rogers.

The Japanese took advantage of a stable serve and took the first victory of their career against Rogers.

- Honestly, I felt that she had the upper hand because I had never beaten her before and it has settled in my head, says Osaka who last met Rogers in 2017.

- So yes, it's a bit like revenge, she continues.

New American awaits in semifinals

Osaka played again with taped thigh, something she says is a precaution.

Next up is the American Jennifer Brady, who earlier in the day defeated Julia Putintseva, Kazakhstan, in two straight sets - 6-3, 6-2.

- I think she is a really fantastic player, she has the variety that I wish I had, so I'm a little jealous, says Osaka about the next opponent.

- But yes, she is super nice and I think it will be a really tough match.

Osaka is chasing his second US Open title.
