European Cross Country Championship canceled due to Corona

The European Athletics Union decided today, Wednesday, to cancel the European cross-country tournament that was due to be held next December in Ireland due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The European Athletics Federation said that the health conditions in Ireland, along with travel restrictions imposed in a number of European countries, forced it to make the decision to cancel.

The tournament was scheduled to start on December 13th.

"The decision to cancel the European cross-country championship was a very difficult choice for the federation," said Dobromir Karamarinov, interim president of the European Athletics Federation.

"After the European Athletics Championships 2020 in Paris was canceled a few months ago, the Cross Country Championship was the last opportunity to organize a major European event in athletics during this year, and therefore the decision to cancel the cancellation was not an easy decision," the European official added.

The next edition of the tournament will be held in Turin, Italy, in 2021.
