Aston Villa sign Watkins from Brentford in a record deal

English football club Aston Villa signed a record-breaking deal today, Wednesday, with striker Olli Watkins from Brentford for 28 million pounds ($ 36 million).

Watkins, 24, shared the top scorer in the English Premier League last season with Fulham's Alexander Mitrovic, with 29 goals each.

Watkins signed a five-year contract and became Aston Villa's second deal in the current transfer market, after defender Matti Cash, whom the club signed from Nottinghack Forest for 16 million pounds.

Aston Villa coach Dean Smith said: "My first developed into one of the most wanted attackers in our country."

"We are looking forward to showing off his abilities with an Aston Villa shirt. He's someone of tremendous persistence," he added.

For his part, Watkins said he could not wait to wear the Aston Villa shirt and participate in the Premier League, adding: "I would like to achieve something special here and score some goals."
