The Dubai Sports Council organizes the "Dubai Women's Badminton Time Program 2020" championship, which will be held from 19 to 26 September, in the Dubai Sports World stadiums in Zabeel Halls 4, 5 and 6 in the Dubai World Trade Center.

The Council announced the opening of registration to participate in the competitions for women of all nationalities, from the age of 15 years and over, through the website www.dubaisc.ae/ WST2020, and participation will be available to a limited number of women, as each category will consist of only 32 players.

A press release said: “The championship is supervised by the Table Tennis and Badminton Association, and the arbitration process is also administered by referees approved by the Federation. The competitions are held on the individual system only, within two categories, the Emirati category and the female resident category. The first round, and each match will consist of three rounds, and the half ends with one player scoring 15 points.

Acting Director of Sports Events Department, Fawzia Fereidoun, said: “This championship comes as a conclusion to the Badminton Time Program, which the Council launched, from the beginning of August, to train women in badminton, which has become one of the most popular sports in Dubai, with the increase in the number of practitioners. Different nationalities, and the badminton time program included free training every Wednesday throughout the month of August, and this tournament will be the culmination of the efforts of the participants in the program to implement everything they learned during this period, and the tournament is an opportunity for women to entertain themselves, especially during this period in which they make a double effort In helping their children with education ».

Fereydoun added: “The Dubai Sports Council is always keen to support and develop women's sports to reach the professional stage, by organizing sports tournaments, training courses and workshops, to develop their sports culture and refine their skills. Indeed, we were able to achieve a lot of development in this field until the number of women became practicing. Sports increase doubly every year, and many governmental and private institutions have allocated women's teams with professional trainers to participate in the various tournaments organized or sponsored by the Council, so that the number of women participating in the tournaments has become equal to the number of men, if not more than it in some competitions.

Apply precautionary measures

All precautionary measures will be applied during the days of the tournament, with the provision of sterilizers, and temperatures will be checked before the entry of any person, whether from the participants or the organizing committee, and everyone will be required to wear masks, while achieving physical distancing and not contacting others, in order to preserve the safety of everyone.
