The Belgian rider Wout Van Aert was able to show himself the strongest in the trap stage bringing the riders of the Tour de France from Millau to the Tarn town of Lavaur on Friday September 4th.

The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar and the Spaniard Mikel Landa, among the first in the general classification before the start of this 7th stage, are the main losers of the day, with an outlay of around 1 min 20 sec.

Already winner Wednesday at Privas, Van Aert (25) has won his second success in the 2020 Tour, the third of his career.

In the final sprint, Van Aert settled a group of around 40 riders.

He beat the Norwegian Edvald Boasson Hagen and the French Bryan Coquard (3rd) and Christophe Laporte (4th).

In this 168-kilometer stage, the Bora team of Slovakian Peter Sagan made a coup de force from the outset by outrunning most of the sprinters, including the Irish champion Sam Bennett, until then wearing the green jersey. which will be Saturday on the shoulders of Sagan, used to the tunic.

Stretched during the first hour at 46 km / h despite the bumpy course, the race was restarted, after a solitary breakaway by the Belgian Thomas De Gendt, when it encountered a stronger wind in the plain around Castres.

The Ineos team of the outgoing winner, the Colombian Egan Bernal, took the initiative and blew up the field with 35 kilometers from the finish without surprising most of the favorites.

Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz, who was present in the group at the front, had the misfortune of being delayed by a mechanical incident while the pace was restarted by the Groupama-FDJ teams of Thibaut Pinot, protected at best by the Swiss Stefan Küng, and Astana.   

Saturday September 5, the race tackles the Pyrenees in the 8th stage, 141 kilometers long between Cazères-sur-Garonne and Loudenvielle.

With, for main course, the port of Balès, the first pass except category of this Tour.
