Pia Sundhage's national team will in future receive the same prize money and compensation as the men.

Sundhage and Lilie Persson received the information from the Brazilian Football Association, CBF, already in March.

- We were at a tournament in France when the president called Pia and told him that he had made the decision.

Then the corona pandemic broke out and there has been no national team football so there has probably been no reason to talk about it.

How did the players react?

- They were so happy and shocked so oh my god.

It's really cool, says Persson to SVT Sport and continues:

- It was a huge day for the association yesterday because at the same time they announced that they have hired two women, former national team players, who will start working for the association with league and national team football.

Does not mention sums

Lilie Persson praises President Rogerio Caboclo's work on gender equality.

- He has really gone from word to deed.

It started with him hiring Pia, then he hired full-time league captains for both the U20 and U17 national teams.

And now all this.

He's really progressive.

Have you and Pia had any impact?

- Of course we try to be involved and contribute to this process in the way we can, but it is his president who makes all the decisions.

What does this mean in concrete terms, can you name a few sums?

- As in all other federations, no sums are mentioned, but as I understand it, Neymar and Marta now earn the same amount when they are away with the national team, to take two well-known names as examples, Persson says.

Camp awaits next week

Due to the corona pandemic, Brazil is not playing international matches at the moment, but next time a national team camp awaits at home on 11-22 September together with the U20 national team.

Then Lilie Persson expects the increase to take effect.

- Yes, so I interpreted the president's presentation yesterday, as if it applies from now on.

"Sweden has been at the forefront"

The issue of equal compensation between women and men is also relevant in Sweden after the Discrimination Ombudsman, DO, last week acquitted the Swedish Football Association of wage discrimination in connection with the 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2019.

- I am not familiar with their agreement but can say that the conditions in Sweden are fantastic.

When we led the national team, we had all the conditions we asked for, there was nothing to whine about.

You say that the president of the Brazilian Confederation went from word to deed.

Is it missing in Swedish football?

- No, on the contrary, I really think that Sweden has been at the forefront many times when it comes to pushing women's football.
