But why on earth did the Deceunincks place Julian Alaphilippe's cousin 17 miles from the finish of the fifth stage of the Tour de France on Wednesday?

How could a team usually so professional be able to commit such a naive fault, synonymous with losing the yellow jersey?

The manager of Alaph 'training, Patrick Lefefere explains, quoted by

L'Equipe

.

“The problem is that the jury changes the supply limit every day and we no longer know exactly how to organize.

The day before, it was set at fifteen kilometers, this morning we had therefore planned to place Franck (Alaphilippe, Julian's cousin) 17 kilometers from the finish.

But the marshals had to judge that the stage had been calm and remained at their regulation of the 20 kilometers.

It must be said that apart from 15-20 last eventful markers and placed under the sign of the side wind and the risks and the nervousness which result from it, the stage was absolutely nothing.

At the end of the day, Lefevere appears disappointed, but assumes: “It's a mistake on our part, but whoever never does raise their hand.

It's sad for Julian and the team to lose the yellow jersey like that.
