According to the autopsy carried out on Monday, Peter Janicot died on Saturday on a rugby pitch in Saint-Gaudens as a result of "innate heart failure".

These words are those of the public prosecutor of the Haute-Garonne sub-prefecture, Christophe Amunzateguy.

The post-mortem examination made it possible to conclude that the death "did not occur following a shock" and was not caused by a gambling action, he said.

"There will be no legal consequences," he added.

A “regular” and “ankle-level” tackle

The 30-year-old man had collapsed during a preseason match between the reserve team of the Stade Saint-Gaudinois Luchonnais XV and the Gers team of Miélan.

The public prosecutor confirms that the tackle suffered by Peter Janicot was "regular" and "at the ankles", as spectators of the meeting had already reported.

The player got up, made a pass, before falling, victim of breathing difficulties.

He had succumbed despite attempts at resuscitation first provided by his team and then by the firefighters.
