Harry Maguire is fine, rest assured. But the Manchester United defender admits to having been "afraid for his life" during his arrest in Greece, where he had fought with tourists in nightclubs before being involved in an altercation with undercover police officers.

“I immediately thought we were being kidnapped. We had to get down on our knees and put our hands in the air, so they started hitting us, ”Maguire told BBC television in his first interview since his arrest.

"They hit me in the legs, telling me that my career was over: 'No more football, you will never play again'", he continued, visibly moved. "At that time, I said to myself that it was impossible that it was the police, that's when I tried to run away," Maguire said again to explain his attitude to the against the Greek police.

Maguire appealed

Released after two nights in detention, the world's most expensive human rights defender has been found guilty of all charges: assault on state officials, bodily harm, verbal abuse and even attempted bribery, as he allegedly proposed money to the police to let him go.

He was given a 21-month, 10-day suspended sentence on Tuesday, but has since appealed, overturning the original verdict, since the appeal was accepted. There will therefore be a full new trial before a higher court.
