The former Brazilian star Ronaldinho has been released after more than five months in detention in Paraguay on charges of entering the country with a forged travel neighborhood, as the investigating judge announced yesterday in the capital Asunción. The two brothers were detained on the sixth of last March in connection with this case. Ronaldinho, a 50-year-old former Paris Saint-Germain player and former Italian AC Milan, and his brother arrived in Asunción on March 4 from Brazil and brought their passports to immigration police, who did not immediately notice any problems with the documents. Hours later, when the fraud was noticed, the police raided the hotel where the 2005 Golden Ball champion was staying, promoting a book and attending conferences sponsored by charities interested in disadvantaged children, and found the forged passports. The investigation has since expanded to include a possible money laundering case.
After about a month behind bars, Ronaldinho and his brother moved, on April 7, to the finally rehabilitated Palmagora Hotel in 2019, located in a building built at the beginning of the twentieth century in Asunción, after paying a financial guarantee of about $ 1.6 million. 18 people have been arrested in connection with the case, most of them immigration officials or police officers.
