Mikael Lustig was born in Umeå and began his football career there. After that it was Gif Sundsvall and then abroad. The defender has represented Rosenborg, Celtic and most recently in Belgian Ghent.

Now, however, it is clear that the 33-year-old national team player will return to Swedish football. He has signed a contract with AIK that extends until July 31, 2021.

- I auditioned in AIK already in 2004 and it feels good that it finally gave results. The wait has been long, but now I'm finally here. I long to wear the black and yellow match shirt, says Mikael Lustig to AIK's website.

"Genuinely happy"

Sports director Henrik Jurelius is satisfied.

- It feels really fun to welcome Mikael to AIK Football. He is an experienced player with extensive international experience both at club level and with the Swedish national team. Mikael is also a leader who with his winning mentality will contribute on the football field and in the development of our young players. I am genuinely happy about the great will that Mikael has shown for this agreement to be possible, says AIK Football's sports director Henrik Jurelius.
